1979

Formed by Steve Drury and Stuart Adams, the company originally operated from rented premises in Stacksteads, Bacup. Two staff were employed with the intention of supplying foam to local furniture manufacturers.

1984

Rapid expansion over the preceding five years led to the purchase of a 35,000 ft² factory in Ramsbottom. By this time, demand was so great that staff numbers had increased to around thirty five.

1989

The latter end of the eighties saw yet further expansion with additional premises being rented in Colne in order to keep up with an ever increasing demand. With the demand for more specialised profiling and in order to increase efficiency and maintain the quality of our service, a Fecken-Kirfel C41 contour cutting machine was purchased. Our production capacity was greatly increased and the C41 became the workhorse of the company,  with many thousands of active jobs stored on it at any one time. Around this time also, fibre fill cushions were becoming increasingly popular and we acknowledged the need for a complete foam and fibre package.

1991

In response to the demand for fibre fill cushions,  4,000 ft². of premises in  Littleborough was obtained. From the outset, a decision was taken to install a Tatham carding machine in order to provide a superior product to the standard fibre which was popular at that time.

Within that same year, demand for fibre fill products was such that a decision was taken to purchase the entire mill of some 35,000 ft². and 4 further Tatham carding machines were installed. With our company growing at such a rapid rate, much emphasis was placed on staff training and Health and Safety issues.

1996

As ever, demand for our product was increasing year-on-year which led to the consolidation of our Colne and Ramsbottom operations into our new 60,000 ft² factory in Bacup. During this time, many improvements were made to the factory including the erection of a new 8,000 ft². loading bay and the construction of a separate block storage facility. Purpose built offices were also constructed at this time. Having already committed ourselves to the introduction of a computerised sales and production planning system, now seemed like an ideal time to invest further in IT and much work was undertaken in terms of infrastructure and systems development. Our move to Bacup also presented us with the opportunity of furthering our commitment towards protecting the environment and a decision was made to convert the majority of our spraying operation from solvent to water based. At this time, Drury Adams were leaders in the use of water based adhesives. We also created a dedicated product development department to deal specifically with new products and manage existing products so as to ensure complete customer satisfaction.

1997

Blown fibre was introduced within our Littleborough plant and cross-folding machinery was commissioned in order to provide a more consistent product.

2000

In order to further increase capacity and maintain our reputation for delivering quality goods on time, a second Fecken-Kirfel contour cutting machine was purchased. Like the C41, it was soon fully operational and at capacity within a short period of time. The ability to convey blocks on and off the knife with minimum effort also led to increased efficiency.

2002

Further enhancements in our automatic cutting operation include the recent purchase of a Fecken-Kirfel C51 horizontal contour cutting machine. Not only does this machine improve productivity, but it also allows us to cut more complicated patterns ideally suited to specialist markets such as the packaging industry.
